Meditation Has a Secret: 5 Questions to Consider

Meditation has a secret.

It doesn’t work for everyone (GASP!).

Of course, this isn’t what we’re told about this powerful, ancient practice. The list of amazing meditation benefits for mind, body, and spirit are practically endless (and easy to Google). Need to get more grounded and focused? Stressed out? Experiencing pain? Want to connect to your inner guidance? Meditation is the cure for all your ills.

But if you ask the average person, they’ll tell you (likely in great detail) the TRUTH about meditation; how they can’t sit still or quiet their mind, they can’t fit it into their day, or they tried it and didn’t like it or didn’t get any effect.

It could even be said that meditation benefits all people, but not all people benefit from meditation.

The true dirty secret of meditation involves the pressure we feel to always be doing something, and to do it as a means to an end, which creates for us a meditation practice that is more like a checklist than personal development. In turn, this can lead to some pretty undesirable outcomes.

Phoenix

The bleeding starts
and runs right through,
piercing all the hearts,
staining the very clothes
that kept it out of sight
and silent in the world
where it so violently wanted sight
and to be seen,
and so she opened up the wound,
made it visible to those who once turned away,
and striking a pose of resistance,
cried her faithful tears
until the bleeding had to stop,
and in its place
and from her death
the great red bird rose and flew,
freedom on its wings,
all she ever wanted,
all her bloody heart ever knew

Inner Truth

inner truth2

Dear ones,
It’s not your job to save the world
Though you may feel it heavy on your bones
Like the weight of a thousand tomorrows
Crashing down like an angry wave
Which slips violently onto shore
And back out again with only darkness on its lips

Carrying sand, shells, sediment
Churning the contents of the shallow wading pools,
Disrupting the fishes at the shore,
Creating a subtle new reality after its retreat

Only to give way to the next,
Relentless in its consistency and calm,
Churning and changing in the gentle light,
Never leaving the shore
The same as it was found

And so, in your daily walk,
When the call becomes a battle cry,
Let the waves land upon your heart with love,
Churning up the sediment of fear,
Disrupting the pattern of resistance,
Creating a new truth –
A truth which is only found inside
