{POEM} What the World Needs

World needs

The world needs to hear your peace
To see your actions of gentleness
And love
The world needs you to be strong and soft
In your heart
Not powering through
But loving full out
The anger
The trauma
The pain
The world needs you broken open
And willing to serve
The world needs your big heart

How to Quiet the Mind

quiet mind

The mind doesn’t quiet
Or slow its thinking
And would we even want it to?

It protects us,
Warns us,
Keeps us out of our own way

And also,
The mind creates fear
Indecision and doubt

And so we need a balance
Of logic and peace,
Protection and freedom,
A life free from self-imposed fear

And in that quest
We find stillness,
Forgiveness,
Gratitude for all our weary minds
Have shown us in love
And duty
Faithfully leading the way

Step aside
Let the heart lead
Let the mind rest
A gift for a lifetime of service

Inner Space

inner space

In the great here and now
Everything’s changing
Everyone’s turning
Eyes to a new light

Some with hope and devastation
Some with the light of new life
Each fueled by the desire
For inner peace and love

The changing ones are leading
In the back doors of our minds
With carefully planted words and songs

Right up front in the conference halls
On the screens
In the churches
On the scenes

Yet pay attention to the quiet ones,
The ones who lead with gentleness and service
In the backdrop of the crowd

For Jesus even said, “Blessed are the meek”
And the meekest of us all
May possess the inner space
To hold the love that opens up
All our starving hearts

Angels Among Us

There are those who walk among us
who bear the shrouded wing,
carry the burdens of the world,
break open their hearts
so that others may remain whole,
with their large and tiny gestures
they serve the least of these,
their words, their songs, their love
for all that lives and grows
it shows
and glows
and halos the world
in pure light from above
