Phoenix

The bleeding starts
and runs right through,
piercing all the hearts,
staining the very clothes
that kept it out of sight
and silent in the world
where it so violently wanted sight
and to be seen,
and so she opened up the wound,
made it visible to those who once turned away,
and striking a pose of resistance,
cried her faithful tears
until the bleeding had to stop,
and in its place
and from her death
the great red bird rose and flew,
freedom on its wings,
all she ever wanted,
all her bloody heart ever knew

Ancient Mother

2015-01-14 14.19.03

Ancient mother lives within,
Spinning up the tales of our soul,
Planting the seeds of future ideations,
Harboring the boats that sail on salty tears
Cried for past generations and future warriors

Laboring for love’s last breath on our lips,
She bears the fruit of victory over death,
Her last breath given to save us from ourselves,
Only to rise again from the ashes we created,
Strengthening the warrior inside

Despite the fear,
Despite the rage,
She frees us from our cage of self-imposition
And our bondage with the broken ties of past regrets

This love she holds is boundless,
Always available to mend our tender hearts
And set the broken pieces to sail
On the sea of her open, endless heart

Waiting

angel

When you feel the world closing in
When it seems all is dark
And all is lost
And four walls ominously bear down
On a soul longing only for freedom

When you feel so tired
So exhausted, and you wish the world
Would turn without you
And sleep would heal all the tears
You didn’t have the strength to cry

When the pain is too much
The days are too long
The minutes turn to hours turn to days turn to years
Before your eyes
And all joy seems to fade away

When the dark night swirls around you
Know that We are here
From that place inside where you dare not go
The open space beyond all shadows
Your inner sanctuary
Where love and peace rule the day
And pain is no more

Seek us there, if you will
When this world gets to be too much
When it seems you can’t go on
We’re waiting

The Wave

Big ocean wave breaking the shore

Sometimes you have to let that wave
Wash upon you
Sometimes you have to let it
Swallow you whole

You can try to stay numb
But eventually those feelings will catch up with you
And when they find you years later
The breakdown is exponential

All those years of feelings piling up
Stored away in the dark
Where you thought you’d never have to deal

When they erupt, look out!
It’s dangerous for anyone to be near
Worse, it’s debilitating for you,
Body, mind, and spirit

So let that wave lap at your feet
Let the waters rise up
Cleanse you in the spirit of release
Let that wave pound at you until
There are no more tears to cry

Lift You Up

Angel_01

I carry the weight of a hurting world this night
All the sadness, all the pain that man can muster
And these wings feel too tattered to lift me up,
Lift me up

Deep within, I know this is not mine to carry
Yet this weight bears down,
This torch I willingly choose, this who I am, at once a burden and gift,
Tonight this light shines dimly only on the feet just below me,
On my own broken path

No matter how much I will through words
Your suffering be transcended
Angels, gods, bended knees, and clasped hands
Can’t stop your deepest hurt
It finds you in the darkest places
Where you try so hard to keep out the light

Even the caress of these weary wings
Won’t make you whole
The mosaic of your tears, burning up the night
But if only for an instant, may they lift you up
Lift you up

Don’t Give Up

Northern lights aurora borealis in the night sky

Don’t give up
You know you’re hearing
The sound of defeat
But freedom is just behind it

You know the path seems lonely
As if the world is against you
And you cry those lonely tears
We all cry in the dark night of our soul

You know no matter how far gone you feel
You can get back to center
The dark night’s stars will light the way
If you choose to look up

You know that your opening is your gift
Though the pain may seem to break you,
The value of the light revealed
Propels us all forward

Don’t give up
Don’t let the world get you down
Your path will set you straight,
Soothe your tears,
Guide you home

A Dream Not Yet Shattered

Lonely girl sitting on pier with ball of glowing light in hand

Just scratching along the surface
We never get where we’re going
We have to dig a little deeper

Down beneath the superficial
Below the false togetherness
The organized and pristine façade
Find the true depth
The real pain and hidden tears

Some days, we walk through the valley
Others we’re high on the mountain
Such is life, with its dips and turns
But we never stop moving forward

We take rests along the way
Never so long that we lose the way altogether
Just long enough to drink the cool water
Rejuvenate, appreciate

Caress the cheek of the child in our arms
This being birthed into a new light
A dream not yet shattered
A hope still promised to the world
